For under five bucks you get a freshly made, massive beef burger (ground and shaped by the in-house butcher) topped with lettuce and tomato in a toasted bun. Price includes a side of greasy fries.
Save-On-Meat, 43 W. Hastings St., Gastown, 604-683-7761.

Splitz Grill features a diverse DIY menu, but for just under $10 build a carnivorous tower of beef and pancetta layered with
sauteed onions, peppers, shredded cheddar, and barbecue sauce. 4242 Main St., South Main, 604-875-9711.

Handmade, unseasoned, unmedicated, and additive-free beef patties are topped with deliciously sweet and savoury special sauce, fried onions, lettuce, and tomato inside a pillowy bun ($10.95) at Moderne Burger, 2507 W. Broadway, Kitsilano, 604-739-0005.

Buy a drink in Morton’s lounge between 5 and 7 p.m. and get treated to tiny steak burgers at no charge. They’re plain but the meat quality is first-rate and the buns are pliable, not to mention super cute. 750 W. Cordova St., 604-915-5105.

The Ocean Club’s prime rib beef burger is infused with molasses-braised short rib meat and topped with caramelized onions ($16)—decadent. 105 - 100 Park Royal, 604-926-2326.
