Q & A with Steve Thorp of Vancouver Urban Winery

Steve Thorp is the co-founder and COO of the spectacularly renovated foundry that's now Vancouver Urban Winery in Railtown, where they manufacture, package and distribute wine on tap to restaurants.

What is Vancouver Urban Winery? A place that's all things wine for consumers to experience local and international juice. Taps, tanks, barrels, tastings, retail-all in the heart of the city. We've been open since January for distribution to restaurants, and since late June for the public. Thursday and Friday evenings we serve tastings of cheese, charcuterie, and relishes with five different wines.

Vancouver's response? We've got 19 restaurant partners and 25 wineries participating, and growing all the time.

How does it work? If a restaurant says it would like Joie on tap, we go and recruit the winery. It's a cool concept, and it gives consumers more by-the-glass options. Lucky for us, Vancouver's a progressive city for wine.

What do you drink? I'm a beer guy through and through, but love wine and spirits, too-let's say I'm a consumer of all liquids.
