JAMILA YOUSIFI

Widowed in 1981, Jamila eventually sent her two children to Pakistan but stayed behind in Kabul to care for her parents. After their deaths, she joined her children in Islamabad before bringing them to Canada. The Malalay Co-op, she says, “is a place to refresh our memories of Afghanistan, speak in our language, make friendships and learn.”
