Rahima Aslami escaped to India after her father was killed and her husband and brother were arrested. She was never taught to read or write, so learning English has been particularly difficult for her. “My children come with me to go grocery shopping, find halal meat, go to the doctor. But it’s hard. It makes you feel alone in the world.” She comes to the co-op, she says, “to share happiness and sadness.”
