Ambitious sculpture using 16mm film and daguerreotypes (the first popular method of photography) forms the basis for Alternatives and Opportunities. If 2010’s Artspeak installation and film, The Poodle Dog Ornamental Bar, is anything to go by, reality itself will glimmer in and out of the viewfinder.

The world is literally at our fingertips, yet we remain perpetually unhappy. Ignorance attempts to answer why, using puppets to chronicle our evolution from joyful, ignorant Cro-Magnons to dreary 21st-century automatons. Take part in the play’s creation at Theoldtrouts.org.

After Italy joined the Axis in WWII, many Italian Canadians were sent to the internment camps better known from Japanese Canadian history. Fresco, by noted playwright Lucia Fragione, is the story of a woman who uncovers this family story amid the 1940s cultural landscape of Vancouver. A Question of Loyalty—2012’s larger program to raise awareness of the “enemy aliens” period of our history—also includes a book launch and memorabilia exhibition (Iccvancouver.ca).
