With its fresh décor, hard-to-source local wines, and exotic, well-executed menu, Amante Bistro was exactly what the Penticton dining scene needed when Vancouverites Rose Amante and Abul Adame arrived in 2007. Chef Adame spent time at Vancouver hotspots like Bis Moreno (now shuttered) and CinCin, as well as working as sous-chef at Burrowing Owl’s Sonora Room. Now in full control of his menu, Adame blends his Mexican roots and his West coast culinary sensibilities in dishes like albacore tuna mango ceviche with gomae-style spinach ($11) and Arctic char with broiled chile poblano sauce ($23). Amante Bistro is now well known for excellent winemaker events, but it’s also a great lunch spot, with it’s signature antipasto sharing platter ($12 for 3 items of your choice), soups ($5.25), and upscale sandwiches under $14.
