What a jolt it is to stroll from the starkly modern lobby of the Opus Hotel into an honest-to-God authentic French brasserie (in inauthentic Yaletown, no less)—simple wooden chairs, a classic tile floor, crisp white linen everywhere, and the archetypal one-page menu. But it’s not until you pay $16 for a Sidecar that you really feel like you’re in Paris. Actually, chef Don Letendre keeps true to the brasserie concept with a perfect salade Niçoise followed by steak frites, which at $23, is one of the city’s great bargains. And the wine list? Way too broad and well chosen to come from a brasserie.
