At Giovane—the striking Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel’s café designed by local outfit MGB—all the rustic baked good are made from scratch. Start the day with a luscious sour cherry/white chocolate scone or a hearty blueberry-yogurt muffin. After work, nab a loaf of the artisanal bread, noteworthy for a crackling crust, perfect crumb, and subtle nuttiness that comes from using a real biga starter. The undisputed star, however, is the signature sugar bun, a buttery soft brioche filled with vanilla pastry cream. Utter perfection.
