French food, German beers, and one of the best frontmen in the city have invaded a stretch of Davie in dire need of a renaissance. A stained-glass chandelier bathes lacquered tables and a cozy wood bar in a soft glow that matches subdued music conducive to conversation. Smoky sweet Alsatian onion tart ($8) is tempered with a liberal drizzle of crème fraîche, and the decadent suckling pig ($18) with fatty cracklings is perfectly crisp. Themed plats du jour (rotisserie rabbit Mondays and pork schnitzel Thursdays are musts) round out a menu that doesn’t skimp on flavour. Thirty-plus beers include frothy pours of König Ludwig, and a love of champagne means big name vintages sell for only cost plus $20. Highly recommended. No reservations.
