Tables are tight and conversations all run into one another at this casual neighbourhood tratt (Gold winner in Vancouver magazine’s restaurant awards, Casual Italian category). Taking its moniker from the Italian for “hole in the wall,” La Buca is both a local favourite and a destination for foodies seeking out chef Andrey Durbach’s rustic Italian classics. The menu is dictated by seasonal products; for warm-weather pasta try green pea and mint agnolotti with braised lamb sauce ($23), or go heartier with roast pork belly ($19). Cooler climes bring rich braises such as fork-tender osso buco Milanese with saffron risotto. Above all, save room for dessert: the panna cotta is second to none.
