Located in an easy-to-miss heritage home, Mis Trucos (Spanish for “my tricks”) features impressive Mediterranean-inspired tapas, smart cocktails, and a unique DIY charm. Credit chef-owner Kris Barnholden for creative small plates like gazpacho shots with Dungeness crab and avocado ($4 each), grilled octopus salad with plump San Marzano tomatoes ($12), and piperade with Serrano ham and slow-cooked egg ($7). Small portions and prices let you sample—accept now that you’ll be exhausting most of the menu until you’re full. Poor acoustics mar an otherwise stellar dining experience; the cacophonous clatter kills conversation. Small 20-seat patio in the back is a tranquil oasis.
