This second-floor yoga studio/eatery may be named for the goddess lover of Lord Krishna, but its substantial vegan dishes will have you thinking stomach as much as heart. Part of a network of 16 Radha Yoga Centres built in the last 20 years around the teachings of Calgary’s Swami Radha, the Vancouver location repurposes at night from teaching centre to a pretty, warm room with an endless wooden floor, Yaletownish brick walls, and a long beckoning bar. Time it right and sunset bathes the long space in golden honey. That’s the only honey you’ll find, given the menu’s vegan emphasis on dishes that make ingenious use of alternatives to animal products; some, like the fluffy cashew butter in the Spanish Tapas’ stuffed yellow pepper, are a revelation while others, like the heavy coconut-oil “ice cream” served alongside a recent fruit crumble, won’t convert dairy lovers. Preternaturally calm servers will walk neophytes through the brief, well-edited menu of appetizers ($8), mains ($14), and desserts ($8) for a unique and rewarding walk on the plant side.
