Summerland now has its own micro-restaurant with this recently opened 20-seat bistro/deli that bustles at lunch. The open kitchen and counter-top seating at the central bar provide intimate access to chef/owner Roger Gillespie as he prepares dinner Thursday through Saturday evenings. Gillespie makes his own house-smoked duck “ham” for the bistro’s signature lunch panini ($12); the double-smoked pork chop with apple Gewurztraminer choucroute dinner ($19) is a nod to the German-influence in the valley. Gillespie’s 20-year food and beverage career has included positions at the Pointe Restaurant at the Wickanninish in Tofino and at Araxi in Whistler—his wine list at Victoria Road is small, but ever-changing and solid.
