It’s a scene right out of a Fred Herzog photograph: a West End character house painted artichoke green with a small deli and Italian grocery tucked into the main level. Proprietor Tim Harris—who arrived here from Ottawa by way of New York (where he was chef to Pamela Wallin, then Canadian consul general)— stocks pantry staples like tins of Italissima roasted red peppers and tubes of San Gennaro polenta, along with fresh pastas from Zara’s. But it’s Harris’s own creations that stand out: richly flavoured antipasti, olives dressed in pesto, and superb madeto-order sandwiches (a steal at only $6) like the Fat Tony—prosciutto cotto and prosciutto salami decked out with provolone and marinated peppers— or the Lafayette, with garlic roast beef, balsamic onions, Havarti, and tangy Creole mustard. Molto buono!
