Like meeting a beautiful woman only to discover her favourite movie is Joe Dirt, nothing is more tragic than finding out the kitchen closes early at your local late-night watering hole. Not so at Gastown’s new Revel Room, an ultra-casual lounge that specializes in the convivial sip and nibble. Renovated heritage space features exposed brick walls illuminated by funky lighting (to match the tunes) with hightop tables downstairs and more intimate areas in the loft above. Plates fly out of the kitchen as late as 1:30 and sturdy libations flow until 2—when they serve warm chocolate chip cookies as a parting gift. Crispy lamb dumplings ($10) and pulled pork sandwich ($10) are early hits on a menu that features wide-ranging global influences. You’ll probably rub elbows with thirsty industry types from nearby restaurants that close far earlier.
