Our judges awarded Gold to Chen’s Shanghai for the Lower Mainland’s best Shanghainese dim sum—“delicious soup buns burst with clean, brothy goodness; flaky dark sesame pastries and delicate steamed buns with chopped spinach and mushrooms are outstanding dishes.”

Koon Bo Seafood (Silver) offers a cold chicken salad that’s a textural delight: slices of chicken, jellyfish, house-made cabbage pickles, and crispy wonton strips all tossed in a light sesame vinaigrette. The barbecued duck is crackling and succulent.

Ho Yuen Kee (Bronze) serves what our judges called “the most perfect crab dish in the city”: garlic Dungeness crab over sticky pearl rice. Steamed tofu with syrup is light as a feather (like a Chinese take on panna cotta) and the steamed ginger milk custard is smooth as silk.

Landmark Hot Pot House and Northern Delicacy both earn Honourable Mention for excellent service.
