Best North Shore: La Régalade

La Régalade (Gold) delivers perfect comfort food—braises and stews—for sharing. One judge insists that “Fall and winter on the North Shore have never been the same since its arrival.” The roast duck with fruit combines richness and brightness perfectly. And chef Alain Rayé’s boeuf bourguignon “takes the grey out of any torrential downpour and restores internal warmth.”

The North Shore arm of the Corsi family’s group of Italian rooms, Gusto di Quattro (Silver), offers well-priced appetizers, some of which are “rapturously intense.” Its pastas are consistently excellent and are complemented by one of the area’s strongest wine lists.

The Dundarave Fish Market (Bronze) is a neighbourhood restaurant with a halibut burger, perfectly grilled and flakily tender, that pleases both pub-food foodies and haute cuisiners. Get it with the thick-cut fries that one judge called “little sand dollars of potato goodness.”

Honourable Mentions to La Cucina (a superb little tratt) and the Crab Shop (killer fish ’n’ chips).
