The Pointe at the Wickaninnish Inn (Gold) has exceptional service, wild surroundings to gaze at through panoramic windows, and an in-depth menu by chef Tim Cuff. “His talent soars with creative touches applied to both sea- and land-based fare. It’s all here.”

Sooke Harbour House (Silver) is the domain of chef Edward Tuson, who’s always pushing boundaries. “From seaweed to indigenous plants to meat raised on Tuson’s own farm, you’re eating locally and sustainably.” Bonus: the wine list and restaurant team have lately improved by leaps and bounds.

The Rosemeade Dining Room at the English Inn (Bronze) is set on a vast treed lot with manicured gardens. Escape from the (pseudo) urban core of Victoria and indulge in Richard Luttman’s strong cooking. The tranquil dining room has a well-trained staff.

Long Beach Lodge (Honourable Mention) is blessed with a zone called the Great Room, where a big armchair, the sound of the sea, and a fireplace beckon. “The casual menu, with pizza from the wood-fired oven, suits me just fine.”

The Aerie Dining Room (Honourable Mention) is a great escape location that has made some badly needed updates and found a new chef willing to experiment with Island ingredients.
