ATOMIC MODEL

Model, actress and recording artist Milla Jovovich was a triple threat even before she and fellow model Carmen Hawk teamed up to design a clothing line. Jovovich-Hawk, known for its urban take on country coquette, distills incongruous inspirations like haute couture and bohemian-chic into spectacular little frocks and evening gowns. 1036 Mainland St., 604-688-9989

BARKING BABIES
With an exclusive clothing line from Tokyo and imported Italian leather carriers, Barking Babies is the Fred Segal of Vancouver’s pet royalty. Carrying items from Little Lilly, Juicy Couture and PETote products ensuring that pup is fashionably ready for a 5 a.m. walk in the park. The store recently located to bigger (make that thrice-the-size) digs, 1188 Homer St., 604-647-2275

BASQUIAT
Cristina Linden (wife of Trevor) has assembled a roster of exclusive European labels augmented with seasonal American flourishes (we love the swimwear from Las Vegas label Vitamin A) at her gorgeous Basquiat boutique. In a city where it’s as hard to score decent men’s shoes as it is to score on Luongo, we were particularly smitten by pieces from New York-by-way-of-Paris designer Jean-Michel Cazabat. (The ladies’ selection is equally divine.) 1189 Hamilton St., 604-688-0828

BROOKLYN CLOTHING CO.
Besides its impressive selection of jeans, Brooklyn Clothing Co. is home to some of greatest men’s street accessories to be found around town, most from local designers. The front counter is jumping with belt buckles made of recycled bike chains, silver jewellery by Deucalion (Pyrrha’s men’s line), wooden wrist cuffs by Woodever and distressed leather murses (yes, a murse is a man-purse). 418 Davie St., 604-683-2929

DESIGN HOUSE
Replace your scratched-up, hand-me-down Tupperware with a candy-coloured acrylic bowl from Italian plastics masters Guzzini. The smaller bowls ($30) hold a whole bag of Miss Vickie’s chips, while the larger size ($42) will house a giant-size bag of Cheetos. Yes, we checked. 1110 Mainland St., 604-681-2800

EDEN
Channeling more of the vibe and less of the vice of celebrity L.A. boutiques like Kitson and Harmony Lane, Eden offers both men and women the latest in Tinseltown trends. Intricately worked leather bags by Mischa Barton favourite Lockheart ($985) sit next to flowing tops and chunky wooden wedges by Sienna Miller-approved French label Paul & Joe. 1042 Hamilton St., 604-685-1737

ENTRENOUS INTERIORS
A selective mix of contemporary home décor, upholstery, dining room sets, bedroom furniture, cocktail tables, shelving, drapery, ottomans and more. Curtain Wall glass dividers are too cool; have a work logo or custom design embossed. A home design service is available. 1088 Homer St., 604-688-4424

EQ3
Think Ikea without the trip to the ’burbs (though they have stores there too). The ever-expanding Winnipeg-based chain stocks modern furnishings and accessories that are both trendy and affordable. Think graphic print bed linens, white dishes, brightly coloured square-armed sofas—all perfect for young professionals tired of the post-student postered-wall-and-futon-couch aesthetic. 1039 Hamilton St., 604-681-5155. Second Vancouver location at 2301 Granville St., South Granville, 604-681-5155 and two other locations in the Lower Mainland

ERA DESIGNS
Custom jeweler and owner Rosemary Bartram is known for her modern, clean lines and her Yaletown store also carries an impressive collection of vintage Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco jewels. 1266 Homer St., 604-688-2714

GLOBAL ATOMIC
Edgy street fashion from local artists, the States and the U.K. (think Merc bags, Government tees, GAS, Fly London shoes) trip in to boost our city's style metre. Check out the organic clothing line Re-Geu, an architectural, form-fitting line. 1006 Mainland St., 604-806-6223

LIGHTFORM
Reminiscent of the Austrian crystal chandeliers at New York’s Lincoln Centre, but with a decidedly industrial twist, these stunning chrome-plated, blown crystal and hand-worked Murano glass hanging lamps are created by acclaimed lighting designer Manuel Giuliano. 1060 Homer St., 604-688-7022

WHERE TO LUNCH: CHILOS TACQUERIA

The charm of a Mexican vacation without the dodgy (and sometimes dangerous) resort hotels awaits at Chilos Tacqueria. We recommend the soft-shell Taco Pastor, made with marinated pork, onion and cilantro ($1.50). Wash it down with a mandarin-flavour Jarritos, the Jones Soda of Mexico.

1351 Richards St, 604-909-7500

LOLA
Mum loves Lola for delicate lingerie, vintage tea sets and ultrafeminine home accessories; little Lolitas will love the entire Burberry line for babies, as well as Petit Bateau fine cotton T-shirts and onesies, and kids’ UGG boots. 1076 Hamilton St., 604-633-5017

MACSTATION
As if to tide iAddicts over until the release of the iPhone later this summer, Apple’s latest gadget is Apple TV, which allows iTunes users to wirelessly sync movies, videos, TV programs and photos directly to their televisions. 1014 Homer St., 604-806-6227

OBSESSIONS
A little whimsy can go a long way when you’re wearing a business suit. While some men enjoy the yuks of a novelty tie, we highly discourage such a sad fashion faux pas. For the aspiring securities grifter, Simon Carter has cornered the market with his crystal dollar and pound sign cuff links, all the better to keep your eyes on the prize. 289 Davie St., 604-683-0188. Other locations: 101–595 Howe St., Downtown, 604-684-0748; ; 1124 Denman St., West End, 604-605-8890; 102B-375 Water St., Gastown, 602-622-7494

VASANJI
Vasanji imports street wear from Europe for men and women, as well as home-grown designs. Check out labels like Butterfly Dropout’s trendy line of casual tee’s, or Apartment, a Columbian line of funky but casual pants, belts and tops for men, as well as Custo from Barcelona. Large selection of Steve Madden shoes. 1012 Mainland St., 604-669-0882
