PREVIOUSLY HIGHLIGHTED

BAMBOLETTA
Christina Platt makes her Bamboletta dolls (each takes about 18 hours) out of natural, organic wools and fabrics at her workshop in Cobble Hill. They’re like a modern take on a Cabbage Patch Kid, only cuter, with cooler names and clothes. $28-$160 Naturalpod.com

CROCODILE BABY
Breeders in the know browse the new kids’ section at Moulé, but your first stop on Fourth Avenue’s baby row must be Crocodile for their fantastic selection of Dwell Baby linens. We love the retro cowboy/cowgirl prints. 2156 W. Fourth Ave., Kitsilano, 604-742-2762

DANDELION KIDS
Dandelion Kids stocks local organic kids line, Fig, plus retro ski jackets and vests for boys from Appaman, Kik-kid aviator hats and Vilac dollhouses and toys made from rubber plant trees by Plan Toys. We got a kick out of Parttime Ninja T-shirts, hoodies and onesies from local designer Ronnie Lee Hill and Blabla kids super cute booties, hats and 100 percent cotton dolls. Highly-sought-after wall stickers by dVider ($29.95-$56.95) are pretty great for any room. We’ll let you use the kiddies as an excuse. And for those rocker parents who won’t give up the flame, the Peltor Ear Muffs ($39.95) protect the little one’s eardrums at concerts, or in your living room. 1206 Commercial Dr., 604-676-1862

HIP BABY
Hip Baby has been the purveyor of all things, well, hip, for baby and mum for the past 10 years, well before west side breeders went bonkers. Their in-house line of basics (cloth diapers, hooded towels and fitted crib sheets, plus T-shirts, hats and bibs for newborns) are designed and manufactured in Toronto. Adjust-2-fit diapers are top sellers at $10.95 each. 2110 W. Fourth Ave., Kitsilano, 604-737-0603

HOLT RENFREW
For the most part the selection is what you’d expect from Holt Renfrew’s children’s department: Ralph Lauren, D&G Jr., Baby Dior. But we were completely taken with Whitney Kids, a darling line of children’s clothing by Canadian designer Whitney Ross. Nothing too cute, or precious, just smart, sophisticated pieces including graphic trenchcoats and sweet pinafores. Coco Arquette is a huge fan. 633 Granville St., Pacific Centre, Downtown, 604-681-3121

KIDSBOOKS
Okay kids, if you’re quiet, Ms. Simon will let you buy a book. The co-owner of the Fourth Avenue bookstore was once a public librarian. No doubt she has access to a wider range of newer books now—and all the staff are as passionate about matching the right bit of child lit with the right reader. A resource centre for the classics, and the newest crop of titles (including those from local writers like Sean Moore, author of Always Run Up the Stairs), movies or language kits, this store will keep the kids entranced and hopefully launch a lifelong reading habit. 3083 W. Broadway, Kitsilano, 604-738-5335

LILIKIKS
A new locally designed and manufactured clothing line for girls seven to 14, is stylish and age appropriate—perfect for girls who dig soccer, dance, and playing Wii. Unit 2, 2305 W. 41st Ave., 604-263-5459.

LOLA
Mum loves Lola for delicate lingerie, vintage tea sets and ultrafeminine home accessories; little Lolitas will love the entire Burberry line for babies, as well as Petit Bateau fine cotton T-shirts and onesies, and kids’ UGG boots. 1076 Hamilton St., Yaletown, 604-633-5017

MODERN KID
Shop for crib linen sets by Dwell, the sleek Ooba Nest bassinet, baby cutlery by Kay Bojesen (pioneer of modern Danish design), Kingsley rocker t-shirts, the coolest selection of adult wear for kids by Parisian designer Finger in the Nose. And really, having a little tyke around makes the one-stop shop all that more necessary. Breastfeeding chair? Try the Monte Luca Glider ($945 with custom colours available). Toys that won’t clash with your living room décor? Classic Brio Blocks re-visited in new lacquered colours (pink, white, black, red, cyan). Sunday best? Lucky Wang’s wrap kimono shirts. 45 Water St., Gastown, 604-662-3181

SCL KIDS
This kiddie clothing boutique is a one-stop-shop for infant to junior ages. Catering to occasions like weddings and christenings, we love the mini tux’s $120-$135. Wee Step shoes and boots are always a hit ($25.50 - $34.50) as are educational toys like the Twilight Turtle that shines constellations on to the ceiling ($60). 1448 Lonsdale Ave., North Van, 604-986-6337
