Condo of the Week: $1.2 million for a West End penthouse with three decks

At last, an apartment that won't require you to give up your grand piano

At last, an apartment that won’t require you to give up your grand piano

The Details: $1,150,000 / 1992 / 1,324 sq. ft. / 2 bed, 2 bath / 802-1272 Comox St.

The condo: It’s a West End penthouse with water and mountain views in a concrete building. For summer-lovers, there are three separate balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows. The large living/dining space allows for house-sized furniture (or a grand piano, if you really want to impress), while separated bedrooms and bathrooms allow for privacy when guests are in town. And it comes with not one but two parking stalls.

The building: ‘Chateau Comox’ may not live up to its French homage in terms of architectural style, but the 23-year-old concrete building is rain-screened to help stand up to our damp climate. And with just 21 units, it’s a little easier to get to know your neighbours (assuming you want to get to know your neighbours).

The neighbourhood: Located at Nelson and Jervis, it’s a short stroll to Davie Street, Nelson Park, the downtown core and, of course, the beach.

The potential downsides: The kitchen is on the smaller side, which may be a deal-breaker for aspiring (or actual) chefs. And while three decks is nice, one massive one might have been better for entertaining.
