Specialty Foods

Whole Foods

A European market writ large and fast-forwarded into the future, Whole Foods ticks all the boxes, with great selection in all specialty departments. Outstanding are the meats, bakery and prepared foods- a massive ready-to-eat smorgasbord with dozens of choices: try the maple chili basil tofu or the quinoa salad with chicken, grapes, and almonds.

Meinhardt Fine Foods

A destination for foodies—and foodies who don't have time to cook—Linda Meinhardt's second store builds on the success of her original Granville location. Find row-upon-row of marinades and imported condiments (a specialty), and gift-basket-worthy items like 49th Parallel coffees and dessert mixes from Food Network's Barefoot Contessa. Meinhardt's ever-expanding store line of everything from thimble cookies to basic pantry staples is reason enough to visit, and will elevate any occasion or recipe.

Ugo & Joe’s Italian Supermarket

Stocking more than 200 European cheeses, 50 different types of olives and antipastos in the olive bar, prepared foods (excellent cabbage rolls), and a vast array of specialty imports and standards like three-litre tins of olive oil (at least one brand will be on sale), and breads from Calabria bakery.

The Pink Pantry

Truly a unique store. The Pink Pantry is the epicurian brainchild of Donald Johannesson, former creative director for FDJ French Dressing. His 30 years of work in fashion took him across North America, Asia, and Europe, and his shop’s stock shows it. Local and international specialty foods line the shelves: truffle oil, dried mushrooms, and champagne vinegar are just a few. Shoppers can even join a Pink Pantry Picks of the Month club and have a bundle of epicurian delights delivered to their doors. Bonus points: The Pink Pantry is actively involved in raising money to fight breast cancer.
