Benton Brothers Do Lunch

Kerrisdale's go-to specialty cheese shop has added the delightful option of a little (dare we say) meat and bread

Red Barn Country Market

A long-established country-style market that has spurned three locations throughout the city. Their double smoked bacon is legendary—a favourite of many chefs—and the smoked pork loin works magic in a choucroute. The aged smoked cheddar is also a winner. Picnic area offers respite to kick back with an ice cream or one of their sky-high custom sandwiches. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Plenty Epicurean Pantry

Accept the cup of tea offered while you explore the array of local, regional, and organic products, expertly sourced by owner Trevor Walker. Find items like single-estate chocolates and teas, soaps from a Kandahar co-op, and bubble gum from a rainforest. Unusual tableware from salvaged wood, crafted into salad tongs or pepper mills. There are also breads from True Grain, preserves from Mountain Ash in Powell River, Salt Spring Island cheeses and pastries, and Victoria's own Bonnie Bea's organic oatcakes.

Market on Yates

Look for Cowichan Bay Farm's chicken in the meat section, hot cinnamon buns in the bakery, local preserves, and the best island cheeses in the deli. New location in the sprawling Langford suburb offers the same quality, just more of it. Helpful staff; open late. Free delivery, seven days a week.

Italian Food Imports

The Segato brothers keep the pace lively while recommending De Cecco pasta, Illy coffee, olives, Italissima brand products and arborio. Italian cured meats and cheeses—including fresh mozzarella—complement the mix with lots of traditional holiday treats. Lunchtime lineups spill onto the sidewalk for subs, pastas, and grilled panini, made to order—get the works with hot marinated eggplant.
