24 Days of B.C. Beer: Holiday Jam Cranberry Sour by Electric Bicycle Brewing (No.18)

We have not soured on Electric Bicycle, don't worry.

Welcome to 24 Days of Beer, in which we guide you through what might be a very dark month. Aren’t you glad we’re here to tell you what to drain your sorrows with?

Well, I made it 18 days without recommending a sour. And it hasn’t been easy. Yes, I’m definitely a seasonal beer drinker and as such my style preference changes with the leaves. Hence the fact I’ve advocated for a plethora of darker than your soul beers in this space.

But I also really like sours. And so I was appropriately stoked when I heard that East Van’s Electric Bicycle Brewing was releasing a cranberry jam sour made for the holiday season. Not every winter beer has to be a stout, and Electric Bicycle has garnered a well-earned reputation (at least in my house) for being an excellent purveyor of sours (their beet sour from awhile back remains one of the best of that type I’ve ever had).

And even if the cranberry jam sour doesn’t quite measure up to that high watermark, it’s exactly as refreshing, fruity and tart as it should be.

Also props to Electric Bicycle for putting out a holiday four-pack with four different beers (why don’t more breweries do this??). I am legally obligated to tell you that the pack also includes a stout (the amazingly named and designed Clone Wars Irish Stout—way to capitalize on the current popularity of The Mandalorian) that is quite pleasant.

So yeah, Electric Bicycle very much delivers on what holiday drinking should be, even if it’s not conventional.
