Opulent tablescapes, flowers for days, all the macarons and Vegas-sized Eiffel Tower this way...
Hold the bouquet—a new luxe-life bridal show has broken onto Vancouver's nuptial event circuit. Local wedding and event planner Aly Armstrong is teaming up with the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver for the inaugural debut of Fleur—a multi-room show and forum to celebrate the extravagant world of weddings—happening this Sunday at the Parq casino's boutique Marriott hotel. We got a sneak peek at the event and wanted to share three reasons why brides-to-be would want to put this on their weekend to-do list. (Photo: @lovebyphoebe
1. Brushing Up Your Skills
One of our most anticipated highlights is the delightful Phoebe Tsui’s watercolour workshop (pre-book here), which is a cool addition to the typical wedding fair. For those with a DIY attitude, Tsui will be teaching her trade secrets for floral watercolours (in keeping with the name of the show) and what makes a stand-out invitation. There is also a calligraphy workshop run by Maurelle Calligraphy, which will come in handy for those handwritten place cards. Calligraphy workshop: 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Watercolour workshop: 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. In the shadow of an Eiffel Tower sculpture (that Armstrong drove up from California in a U-Haul), guests at this past weekend's preview party got to see the wedding accoutrement in action.
2. Major Theme Inspo
Having a themed wedding is nothing new, but Fleur is reviving the trend with a "design walk" through four conceptualized vignettes based on fashion-forward cities around the world: Paris, New York, Chinoiserie and our very own Whistler. The city motif, like the Paris one pictured above, utilizes colour scheme, regional cuisine and a statement backdrop to pull the wedding theme together. Strolling through the New York section of Parq's Fairview Ballroom you can soak up all that metropolitan wedding inspiration (without the risk of running into any yellow cabs). France was the main inspiration behind Fleur and the entire show will have small Parisian touches throughout.
3. Brides on Parade
We love a good fashion show, and local luxury storefront Blush Bridal will be presenting a selection of their designer gowns that range from classic to couture. Blush carries names such as Vera Wang, Berta and Alessandra Rinaudo so there's certain to be something to drool over. Wedding Dress Presentation: 2:30 p.m.
Bonus: Gentlemen's Lounge
A multi-level penthouse suite will be repurposed to entertain the men in your life who want to take a break from checking out booths and panels. Barber shops, custom tailoring and a trusty bartender will keep them company.
Upright Decor (draping), Eclat Decor (chairs), Winston’s Table Curation (plates and flatware) and The Flower Factory (table pieces) will be featured at Fleur alongside other local industry professionals.
Sunday, January 21 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, 39 Smithe St., Vancouver General admission starts at $50 fleurvancouver.com
