Now - September 16
Urban Indigenous youth are saying it and spraying it in Language Matters, a graffiti and collage art exhibition that brings awareness to the importance of Indigenous language revitalization. The works were created in workshops led by Tsleil-Waututh artist and language activist Ocean Hyland and Heiltsuk artist KC Hall. The exhibition spotlights language as a key way for Indigenous youth to reconnect with their culture - these pictures are worth more than a thousand words.

Fairy-tale fantasy meets ghosts and gang violence in Tigers are Not Afraid, a Mexican indie film that makes the Brothers Grimm stories look like Sesame Street. The movie, directed by Issa López, begins with 10-year-old Estrella wishing for her missing mother’s return. Mom comes back, all right - as a ghostly being who follows Estrella around until she joins a gang in order to escape the undead matriarch. This film has been called “the best Guillermo del Toro movie he never made” - don’t miss it.
