5 Things to Do at Home in Vancouver This Week (March 30-April 5)

Sahabhāva: A Virtual Indian Classical Music & Dance Festival

Tuesday, March 31 through May

Sahabhāva is a Sanskrit word for “coexistence, community, and coming together”— and even though it must be done virtually, there’s no stopping this virtual music fest. Starting this week and continuing through May, this multidisciplinary fest is a response to COVID-19 social isolation. The event includes musical performances (like Sharanjeet Singh Mand pictured above performing Hindustani sitar music), lectures, and demonstrations, all available through Zoom and archived online.

Cost: $15

Sweat with Formation Studio

Daily

If you’re like me and super self-conscious about dancing, Formation Studio’s livestreamed classes are the ideal non-embarrassing dance-based exercise (and there’s the added little bonus that they’re distance-friendly).  The classes are streamed live on Facebook and Instagram, and include Freedom (a 30-minute follow along dance party with no routine) on Monday at 7:30pm and Tuesday at 5:30pm, Presence (where they teach a routine in 30 minutes; this week it’s “Juice” by Lizzo) on Thursday at 7:30pm, and Power (a music-driven strength and conditioning workout) on Saturday at 9:30am.

Watch Quarantinily Yours

Saturday, April 4 9:00 p.m.

From “the comfort of your chosen social distancing,” local drag artists Joan-E and Carlotta Gurl are bringing us the show we need in these trying times. Last week’s show included new weekly segments including a birthday celebration for those who are unable to properly party, a top ten list (topic suggestions encouraged) and ‘Over-read that scene, Queen!’ where the hosts (over)act out iconic T.V. and movie moments.

Jellyflix and Chill

Anytime

If you think Netflix Party is peak physical distancing entertainment, think again. Get some friends together (electronically) and tune in to the Vancouver Aquarium’s jellyfish cam for a real cinematic masterpiece. Is there a more exhilarating narrative than the twists and turns of life itself?

Get a Beer

Anytime

Staying indoors has never been easier with all of the breweries offering delivery right now. Oh, if only some sort of esteemed local publication put together a list of breweries and even made recommendations for which beer to order. Oh wait, we did.
