Fitness World is celebrating Pride with a special pop-up outdoor workout class co-hosted by drag superstars Kendall Gender, Sythia Kiss and Venus K. The class is a full-body HIIT workout that includes dance moves and is open to the public and all fitness levels.
2. Deck Chair Cinema: Summer of Soul
Pack up your beach chairs and blankets and watch a movie under the stars at Polygon Gallery’s deck chair cinema. This week they’re screening Questlove’s Oscar-winning documentary Summer of Soul. Crafted from footage of the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, the film chronicles Black culture in a pivotal moment.
3. Turning Trash into Treasure
August 5 to September 3
Eleven artists from North Van to Pemberton were selected to represent their local arts councils and create unique pieces from objects revered through clean-up dives at lakes and ocean site. Their work gives waste a second life and, well, turns trash into treasure. Visitors can also participate in the exhibit by collectively creating a 3D sculpture of an octopus out of to-be-recycled coroplast signs.
4. Harmony Arts Festival
Through August 7
Harmony Arts Fest is returning to West Van with their celebration of the arts that features live music, visual art and awesome eats. The event also has a bespoke night market that runs from August 2-4, where you can purchase handmade goods from local artisans.
5. Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival
After a two-year hiatus, the Burnaby Blues + Roots Fest is back with a lineup that includes the Grammy-award winning band The War On Drugs, plus other popular performers like Ruby Waters, The Soul Rebels and Balkan Shmalkan. There will also be food trucks on-site as well as beer and wine service.
