1. Takeout for Two
Launching January 11
Fable Diner is serving up three new takeout packages with options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the breakfast lineup ($30) is loaded french toast, egg bennies and sides; lunch ($35) is kale caesar salad, burgers and fries, and dinner ($40) is steak frites, citrus-poached salmon, potato salad and housemade pie. They all serve two, so assemble your bubble buddy (or make sure you're really hungry).

2. Watch the Italian Film Festival
Through January 21
Did you know there's a new, acclaimed, live-action version of Pinocchio? Neither did we, but the Vancouver Italian Film Festival is screening it (and lots of other films from the world's favourite boot-shaped country) for the next two weeks. Check out the whole fest online—a festival pass is $25.

3. Shop Local at Circle Craft
January 11 to February 28
Circle Craft Market lives online for now, but local artisans are still as creative as ever. The local market's "Here Comes the Sun" event celebrates the return of warmth, and artists have geared their wares towards themes of rebirth, resolutions and renewal. Expect intention-setting Daruma by Grace Lee of Eikcam Ceramics, silk purses by Koti Designs, and more.

4. Chow Down like the Québécois
Starting January 15
St. Lawrence restaurant's "Cabane à Sucre" dining menu usually sells out, so get your reservations in soon (it's available for takeout, too). On the menu this year is delicious French Canadian eats like Truite Mariné à l’Érable et Au Gin du Quebec, Blinis au Sarrasin (cured trout with maple & Quebec gin with blinis & truffle crème fraîche) and Profitérole de Mousse de Foie de Canard, Sucre d’Érable & Salade de Pommes (choux puff stuffed with duck liver mousse, maple sugar & apple-celeriac salad). They're a mouthful—which is kind of what you want when you're ordering dinner.

5. Attend a Virtual Play Reading
January 15
Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre is hosting three virtual play readings over the next few weeks—it's your first chance to "see" shows that will hopefully live on the stage sometime soon. First up is Termite by Meghna Haldar, a play that uses two monkey narrators to guide audiences though a larger-than-life morality tale. RSVP for the Zoom event here.
