5 Things to Do in Vancouver This Week (January 13-19)

Veggie-Forward Feast

January 13

Have an elegant meal your mother would approve of at Wildebeest’s ‘Roots to Shoots’ winter harvest dinner. Chef Ian McHale is collaborating with The Acorn’s Devon Latte for a green meal to soothe your winter grumblies—think black turtle bean & carrot terrine, mushroom tartare and harukei turnips. Turnip for this.

When: Monday, January 13 7:00 p.m.
Where: Wildebeest
Cost: $69
More Info: wildebeest.ca

Real Ringmasters

From acrobatics to burlesque to spoken word to performance art, The Wonderwombs have you covered. This crazy-cool feminist circus show has explicit language, nudity and sexual content warnings galore—hire a babysitter and snag those seats.

Bubble Trouble

Dome my god. Orb em gee. If you’ve got the cash and are cool with being called a dupe, you can check out Dinner with a View starting this week. If you haven’t the cash or don’t agree with stunt restaurants, we’re pretty sure that you can still take a leisurely walk through Ambleside and see what all the fuss is about.

That’s All Folks

January 15

Stand-up comedy, soulful folk tunes, and some very empowering females—there’s something for everyone at Anything Goes. Comedian Richard Glen Lett opens the evening, followed by singer Chelsea D.E. Johnson and headliner Rivky Gee. Originally from New York, Rivky Gee tours as a musician and advocate for mental health (her lived experiences with schizophrenia shine a light on psychosis). You can check out her sound here.

When: Wednesday, January 15 9:00 p.m.
Where: Cafe Deux Soleils
Cost: $10
More Info: eventbrite.com

Comedy Crisis

Through January 25

Laugh to keep from crying: the new play House and Home is a comedic take on Vancouver’s real estate crisis. We’re predicting this show having a very high relatability factor (almost as high as our housing prices, yikes!) as it tells the story of housing headaches, short-term rentals and abandoning values. It tackles real problems with compassion and comedy—we’ll see you there.

When: Through January 25
Where: Firehall Arts Centre
Cost: From $20
