5 Things to Do in Vancouver This Week (January 20-26)

Shuck Yeah

January 20

Kick off the week with this sick collab from Burdock & Co’s Chef Andrea Carlson and the folks at Curious Oyster. Bar Gobo is a pop-up dinner swinging in to Burdock & Co on select Monday nights; this is the first of the 2020 series. Coincidentally, it’s also #OysterMonday.

When: Monday, January 20 8:00 p.m. – late
Where: Burdock & Co
More Info: burdockandco.com

Sound On

January 23

Get your music fix at Thursday’s Amber Liu concert. This androgynous Asian-American artist was one-quarter of K-pop group f(x), and is now flying solo with a decidedly different sound—namely, rap.

When: Thursday, January 23 7:00 p.m.
Where: Vogue Theatre
Cost: From $28
More Info: eventbrite.ca

Chews and Views

January 23

If going to casual-fine chain restaurant openings is the kind of thing that wins you bragging rights among your friends (or you’re just itching for a Sea Bus ride) head to Joey Shipyards for their grand opening this week. The 9,500 square foot restaurant has some pretty stunning waterfront views, and the views inside aren’t bad either—look out for the work of local artists Brent Comber and Shawn Hunt.

When: Thursday, January 23
Where: Joey Shipyards

Cool Consignment

January 25

You never quite know what you’re going to find in a consignment store—unless it’s the Archive Closet Raid, that is. You can take a scroll through the profiles of local trendsetters Sharday Engel and Jennifer Pistor to get a pretty good idea of what you’ll find. The closet raid features their own pre-loved clothing. No costume-y finds here (unless you’re anticipating going as a style influencer for Halloween 2020).

When: Saturday, January 25 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Where: ARC Apparel
Cost: Free admission
More Info: heyarchive.ca

Rat Out

January 26

Take part in a 47-year-old tradition at the Chinatown Spring Festival Parade this Sunday. This parade has the largest assembly of traditional lion dance teams in the country (brag alert!) plus music, marching bands, and martial arts performances. Ring in the year of the rat in a big way.

When: Sunday, January 26 11:00 a.m.
Where: Chinatown, map here
Cost: Free
