5 Things to Do in Vancouver This Week (January 25-31)

1. The Hot Chocolate Fest

Through February 14

Here’s a real chance to indulge your inner child in a COVID-friendly way (we’re thinking ball pits are a pandemic no-no). The Hot Chocolate Fest features 39 local restaurants who’ve crafted 87 special cocoas—like the one pictured above, the Mauna Loa from Honolulu Coffee. It’s got 70% dark chocolate, maple chilli bacon syrup, cayenne pepper and paprika and is named after the world’s largest volcano (plus it comes with a volcano-shaped brownie, boom). Quit microwaving that Nestle, it’s 2021.

When: On now until Sunday, February 14
Where: Various restaurants and cafes

2. Graveyards and Gardens

January 28 and 29

Catch the world premiere livestream of Graveyards and Gardens, a musical performance by Caroline Shaw and Vanessa Goodman. The show explores the creative process and takes place among 400 feet of sound cables and plants (and sounds of all kinds, from tape decks to Edison wax recordings).
When: Thursday January 28 and Friday January 29
Where: Online
Cost: $15

3. Watch the Game at the Rio

Daily

The folks at the Rio are being real good sports about what some might call unfair COVID restrictions (you know, the ones that don’t allow arts venues to operate under the same rules as bars, restaurants and gyms). Check out what’s on this week at the Rio Sports Bar, our city’s newest cheeky spot for games on the big screen.

When: Daily
Where: The Rio Sports Bar

4. Indulge in Feel-Good Storytime

January 28

To combat what seems like a universal feeling of anxiety and isolation (guilty!), the Vancouver Public Library is hosting a good old-fashioned storytime—positive vibes only. During this livestream, storytellers Vanessa Richards, Charles Montgomery, Emilee Gilpin and Michelle Cyca will be sharing tales of connection during COVID (and helping us all feel a little less alone).
When: Thursday January 28, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Online
More Info: facebook.com

5. Grab a Burger

January 29 to 31

If you’ve been keeping up with our Instagram, you know our editors have been trying every burger we can get our hands on (stay tuned for our draft of the best burgers in the city). We snagged a Between 2 Buns burger at Bestie last week, and they’re popping back up at Container Brewing this weekend—get there early to avoid the line.

When: Friday January 29 to Sunday January 31
Where: Container Brewing
