5 Things to Do in Vancouver This Week (Without Leaving Your House)

Livestream the Seattle Symphony

Through March 31

If you loved (or missed) the VSO’s BeethovenFest Virtual Finale this weekend, be sure to check out livestreams from our neighbour to the south. The Seattle Symphony is livestreaming concerts for the rest of this month; you can check out their schedule here. No theatre etiquette required—think of all the noisy candies you can open from the comfort of your own home.

When: Through March 31

Watch Frozen 2 Nine Times

Streaming March 17

Disney Plus is releasing Frozen 2 months ahead of schedule for kids, parents, and totally mature adults who just happen to (rightfully) worship Idina Menzel. For you mandatory-work-from-homers, we suggest blasting “Into the Unknown” as you struggle to access your company server remotely.

When: Streaming on Disney Plus on March 17

Sing-a-long Remotely

March 17

Toronto-based musical group Choir! Choir! Choir! is holding a live sing-a-long tomorrow night (and no one’s saying you can’t bring your laptop to the bathroom for better acoustics). Participants can download the lyrics to the selected songs here. The uplifting lineup includes “Stand By Me,” “Wish You Were Here,” “Lean on Me” and “With A Little Help From My Friends.”

When: Tuesday, March 17 8:00 p.m.

Take An Ivy League Class

Anytime

Okay, so online sing-a-longs and binging G-rated movies isn’t “intellectually stimulating” enough for you? Cool, that’s fine. I won’t even mention Frozen 2‘s anti-colonial narrative. You can always take an online class at an Ivy League school, instead. Free Code Camp has a roundup of classes you can take for free (like “Software Defined Networking,” “Financial Engineering and Risk Management Part I,” and “Sharks! Global Biodiversity, Biology, and Conservation”). Nerd.

Watch the Sunday Service on Youtube Live

March 22

Vancouver’s improv darlings the Sunday Service made show history last week with their first livestreamed performance. Catch them at 9:00 p.m. this Sunday (just like every Sunday) from wherever you’re socially isolating at. Improvisor Taz VanRassel made a great point via Instagram: “In our 15 years we’ve never cancelled a show. And we still won’t. You’re just not invited to be in the room while we do it.” Keep an eye on their Facebook page for the link.

When: Sunday, March 22 9:00 p.m.
Cost: Free
