If you’re anything like me, you probably always go to the same places to eat, and always get the same thing (I’m looking at you, Anton’s). Why not step outside your comfort zone and try something new this weekend? From handmade pierogi to John Snow-approved cuisine, there’s something totally tasty for tout le monde.

Spirits Speaker Series

When: Friday, April 12, 7 p.m.
Where: BMO Theatre Centre, 162 West 1st Ave
Cost: From $50
Tickets: Arts Club

Thirsty for some whiskey? Join Joel Virginillo, a Western Canada Scotch Specialist, to learn more about the malt. This is the second fundraising event in a new series of tastings by Legacy Liquor Store. Proceeds go to Arts Club productions and youth initiatives.

Vancouver Vaisakhi Celebration

When: Saturday, April 13, around 11 p.m.
Where: Parade starts at the Ross Street Temple, 8000 Ross Street
Cost: Free

As many as 300,000 people attend the Sikh celebration of Vaisakhi in Vancouver. It’s one of the city’s largest, most impressive festivals. Expect tons of free food, including curry, ice cream, and other tasty treats.

Spring Perogy Lunch

When: Sunday, April 14, 11-3 p.m.
Where: Ukranian Hall, 850 East Pender
Cost: Depends what you’re hungry for!

Who doesn’t love perogies?! (Well, to be honest, they’re not my favourite. But I’ve been told that’s a major character flaw by pretty much everyone I know). Come stuff yourself with classic Ukrainian food like perogies, sausage, and cabbage rolls.  

Soup Feast @ Abundance

When: Sunday, April 14, 7 p.m.
Where: Eternal Abundance, 1025 Commercial Drive

Join chef Mark Strunk as he teaches hungry workshop-goers to make two savory soups. You can expect to learn to make a green detox soup and a chunky ginger lemon split pea soup. Soul = soothed.
