Am I obsessed with patios? Sorry, I can't hear you over my tan.

Street-side sipping is one of the only nice side effects of this global pandemic, and I intend to both enjoy and document every minute of our new outdoorsy identity. While the city has approved hundreds of these sort of outdoor spaces to help keep the restaurant industry afloat in these strange times, to me, it's the breweries that are most alluring: it's such a rare thing to find a spot in the city to grab a tasting flight and some sun, so I'm trying to soak up both while we can. (Temporary patios have so far only been approved through October, though it's always possible the city will renew the licenses in the spring if things go well.)

It's why I've compiled a list of all the breweries that have opened new or temporary patios for the summer, and intend to scope out as many as is safely possible this weekend. And if you want to thank me for being an amazing citizen who cares about keeping our faces in (fun) outdoor spaces, just buy me a (socially distanced) beer.

Vancouver Craft Breweries With New Patios

Both patios are now open 7 days week. Tell your friends. #33acres #b33r

33 Acres

15 W 8th Avenue

There's now temporary patio seating available for both 33 Acres and its experimental sister brewery, 33 EXP, but much like the indoor spaces, you've got to time it right to get a seat—the tech workers here in Mount Pixel have it pretty much tied up every happy hour.

Brassneck Brewery

2148 Main Street

Main Street's now lousy with patios, and we couldn't be happier. Brassneck's may be the best on the street though, with a rotating food truck still visiting each night.

Bomber Brewing

1488 Adanac Street

Bomber's got a perfectly summery new setup (four outdoor picnic tables) for sipping the perfectly summery Park Life ale.

Callister Brewing

1338 Franklin Street

You've got your pick of sun or shade with the addition of umbrellas at the new outdoor tables of East Van's Callister Brewing—how civilized.

Container Brewing

1216 Franklin Street

Right down the street from shady Callister is Container, where a string-light-strewn patio space awaits, should you fancy a hop-fuelled brewery crawl this weekend.

Electric Bicycle Brewing

20 E 4th Avenue

Of course Electric Bicycle (who won our Best Brewery Design Award earlier this year) has gone all out with their street space. Straw umbrellas and white trellis fencing makes the sidewalk spot feel like a groovy garden party.

Faculty Brewing

1830 Ontario Street

Besides Faculty's intruiging experimental brews (Mango Cream, anyone?) Oddity Kombucha is on tap here, if you'd rather have a pint of that on the sunny Ontario Street patio.

Luppolo Brewing

1123 Venables Street

Luppolo has somehow created a garden oasis in industrial East Van, with a roomy patio surrounded by greenery. Dogs welcome (maybe even encouraged).

Main Street Brewing

261 E 7th Avenue

The views of this residential street aren't anything to write home about, but sipping a Sour Peach Fruit Bomb in the sun is pure summer fun.

Plenty of bike parking to be found alongside this East Van brewery—just remember to cycle safe.

Come for the Hull Melon Pilsner with notes of honeydew, stay for the colourful container art.

375 Water Street

Steamworks has scored a license for an extended patio during these trying times, giving them enough room to host you and your bike side by side.

Lucky Vancouver Breweries That Had Patios This Whole Time

These lucky breweries have had patio licenses for ages—though perhaps this newfound competition will mean it's easier to snag a spot.

1253 Johnston Street

The Granville Island patio, with its cabanas and fire tables, is infinitely more elegant than the scrappy ones you'll find in the brewery district, and you can get a pitcher for under $15—possibly worth braving the tourists for.

Parallel 49

1950 Triumph Street

Plentiful outdoor seating to be found here, since P49 was able to expand its outdoor space and add additional tables on the street.

R&B Brewing

54 E 4th Avenue

R&B's skinny, bar-style patio that's long inspired lines in the Mount Pleasant 'hood has been supplemented by a handful of new mint-coloured picnic tables, perfect for some brews with your bubble.

295 E 1st Avenue

There's a lot of outdoor space to choose from thanks to a newly expanded section of the patio that spills into the parking lot, surrounded by a charming white picket fence.

Stanley Park Brewpub

8901 Stanley Park Drive

The covered patio on the recently renovated historic building (formerly the Fish House) is the ideal place to recover from a scorching tennis match or biking up that brutal incline to prospect point.

Yaletown Brewing

1111 Mainland Street

It's in Yaletown, of course there's a patio. Of course it's Aperol Spritz themed. Of course we'll be there toasting the holiday Monday.
