As Vancouverites, we’re all well aware that we have some pretty incredible restaurants. And we’re not the only ones who have noticed the high quality cuisine available in our fair city. As of this morning Michelin announced that Vancouver is the newest Michelin Guide Destination. Michelin will be revealing their Vancouver selection this fall—showcasing the best of the best in the city. The famously anonymous inspectors are already here, dining in secret (with eye holes cut in newspapers, probably?) and looking for Vancouver’s outstanding restaurants. Both restaurants and professionals will receive Michelin distinctions later this year with the iconic Michelin Stars only being awarded to unparalleled cuisine.

The inspectors will follow Michelin’s historical methodology to judge the restaurants. This is based on five universal criteria which are meant to ensure equity in selection: quality products, harmony of flavours, mastery of cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in the cuisine and consistency between each visit.

In addition to the famed stars, the Guide is also known for its Bib Gourmand selection which highlights restaurants with delicious food at more accessible prices and a Green Star which is awarded to restaurants that lead the way in sustainability.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Michelin Guide to Canada’s west coast and shine a spotlight on all that Vancouver has to offer,” says Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides. We’re pretty thrilled, too, and will make sure to keep you updated on any exciting Michelin news.
