Silver Lining Alert: We're in the glory days for take-out.
As you may have heard, we’re pushing our Restaurant Awards to the Fall. It’s 100-percent the right decision, but we love the issue so much that we need to direct our ardour someplace else. Luckily, one of the few positive byproducts our our current situation is that restaurants who heretofore eschewed the takeout game, have tossed their toques into the world of eating fine dining at home. So here’s your chance to eat through last year’s Gold Medal Winners who have decided to pivot to takeout:
The Deal Starting tomorrow (March 25), the acclaimed restaurant launches BLVD Provisions. You can order follow on Instagram for updates, and you can order from Tock. Furthermore, front-line employees are eligible for a 25% discount. With each order Boulevard, will donate $2 to the Vancouver Food Bank, and shoppers will also have the opportunity to make a personal donation to the Food Bank or to purchase a meal for an unemployed restaurant worker.
The Order How about homestyle Chicken Cacciatore that feeds four people for $30? From Boulevard. Or Provision Packs premium proteins, which include Prime New York Striploin, Wild Ling Cod and Wild Coho Salmon. All items are vacuum-sealed for convenient storage or freezing. Provision Packs are available for $165 (12 portions of protein) and $85 (6 portions of protein).
The Deal Easy: just call (604) 336-1803 and, because they’re no stranger to takeout, you’ll have a seamless experience.
The Order How can a pizza as beautifully simple as the Napoletana (fior di latte, anchovies) be only $16? And under the new regs, they’re selling their wine at 25% off, so maybe tag on a juicy bottle of Barbera?
The Deal Right now they doing both CSA bags: order Tuesday at noon for Thursday pickup. And they’re doing takeaway, Thursday to Saturday. Menus posted on website on Wednesdays. Call 604-879-0077 or through Instagram.
The Order Andrea Carlson loves her veg, but she has a unique beauty with chicken — if it’s fried or roasted, order it.
The Deal Leave it to the vegetarians to play totally into stereotypes and be the most generous folk among us with the Acorn Market, a ready-to-roll virtual restaurant with super low prices, plus a Pay It Forward soup that gives both you and a person in need some soup. Order on the site—super user friendly.
The Order The prices are so fair (they seem too fair, tbh) that we’d hit it all—but start with the country fried rutabaga steak with cabbage slaw and house mustard ($12.75) and you won’t be disappointed.
The Deal To be fair, you could always get Cactus with Doordash, but now there’s no delivery fee. They do pick-up as well. Order either on the site.
The Order A lot of the menu lends itself to delivery but we’ll go for the half-burrata and a prawn kale salad for the extra travel-ability. And the already well-priced wine list, curated by the magnificent Sebastien le Goff, is 50% off – so maybe a bottle of Syncromesh Riesling for $24!
The Deal You could always call ahead (604-283-1385) to place an order, but it often was tricky when the lines were long. And the lines were always long. It’s a bit better now.
The Order A few weeks before all this mayhem, I stopped in and on a whim, ordered the Jerk Sandwich. Best thing I ate all month. A wonder of flavour,
The Deal The menus is posted to their Instagram account everyday. Peruse and order via phone: 604-676-1007 starting at 11 am each morning.
The Order How about Maltagliati Monkfish, Rapini and Tomato $23?
