It really shouldn't have been a surprise, given the number of farmers markets and artisan craft fairs that are on any given weekend, but we were blown away by the number of entries in last year's first-ever Made in Vancouver awards. By the time our judging week came around, our office was overflowing with artisanal kombuchas, freshly made jams, and even a locally designed wedding dress.
It was some stiff competition across the six different categories we offered for our inaugural event, but we narrowed it down to a group of impressive winners who we felt represented the best of what Vancouver's maker culture had to offer.
And now, we're doing it all over again.
Buckle up, because our second annual Made in Vancouver awards program is now accepting your entries so that we can spotlight even more of our city's serious creative talent.
This year, we've refined our categories even further. In addition to awarding the best Beauty, Home and Fashion products, we'll be giving out two Food awards (one for the best Sweet product, another for best Savoury) and three Drink awards (best Spirits, best Zero-Proof beverage and new this year, best Beer). Or are you so outside the box that your made-in-Vancouver good isn't easily categorized? We've also got a Wildcard category to cover anything else we've missed. From hot sauce to handbags to athleisure gear, if it's made in the Lower Mainland, we want to hear about it.
VanMag's Made in Vancouver Awards are your chance to share your work with our editorial team and our esteemed guest judges (we'll be announcing this year's all-star panel soon!). Winners will be profiled in the July/August issue of Vancouver magazine, and of course, right here on vanmag.com, too.
Ready to show us what you've got? We're accepting submissions until March 13, so apply today. Show us what this city's maker community has to offer—we can't wait to be overwhelmed again.
