Head up north for the third annual Vancouver’s North Shore Craft Beer Week, where you can sample all the breweries worth the bridge traffic. Events include Beere Brewing’s second birthday party, an open mic night at Black Kettle Brewing, and Taco Tuesday at Bridge brewing. As far as we’re concerned, it’s the only time you should be able to wear your “Wish You Were Beer” shirt in public.

Celebrate contemporary and classical Indian culture at Diwali Downtown, Metro Vancouver’s central Diwali event. Diwali is the grandest bash of all Indian holidays, and celebrates the triumph of good over evil with a big and bright celebration (diwali means “row of lighted lamps”). This year’s Diwali Downtown features music and dance performances and an Indian style bazaar with local crafts and sweets—it’s a joyous, high-energy event worth the commute to Surrey.

Double Feature

Tegan and Sara are can add “authors” to their collective resumes—which already include award-winning musicians, activists, LGBT icons, and twins who get along—with the release of their first memoir, HIGH SCHOOL. The memoir accompanies their ninth studio album HEY, I’M JUST LIKE YOU (why are we yelling!) which they will be celebrating at the Vogue this week. One dollar form each ticket goes to the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which fights for health, economic justice, and representation for LGBTQ+ girls and women.
