13 New Vancouver Restaurants to Try This Summer

Ramen, gelato, seafood towers, fried chicken... enough said.

My stomach was grumbling writing this. It’s been a while since we rounded up the new rooms in Vancouver, so here’s a rundown of the hottest restaurants that have just opened or are slated to open soon. On this list are coffee shops, ice cream joints, fine dining destinations, international favourites and more—let’s dig in.

Suyo

Opening Soon

This new modern Peruvian restaurant has made its home inside the former Slickity Jim’s, led by an all-star team of local talent. Seafood lovers, this one is for you.

R+D Kitchen by White Spot

Now open

We usually think of White Spot for its decades-old menu staples, but this new restaurant is all about trying new things. This restaurant/test kitchen is located in the Amazing Brentwood, and the menu includes a truffled mushroom wagyu burger (but is it legendary?) and harissa cauliflower steak.

Casa Mia Neighbourhood Cucina & Mercato

Now Open

Calling all pizza fans: make this new West Van room your next dinner reservation. Menu standouts include the salami pizza (tomato sauce, fennel salami, olives, oregano, mozzarella, Grana Padano) and boneless short rib braised in red wine with polenta and salsa verde. There’s a little Italian retail space, too.

Yasma

Now Open

This pandemic-born restaurant was originally takeout only, occupying the former Dark Table space. Now, they’ve got a beautiful brand-new dining room in Coal Harbour. The Syrian and Lebanese menu includes shish tawouk, kebabs, hummus and baba ghanoush (and they have some of the best fries in the city).

Jollibee

If you haven’t gotten the chance to try this Filipino fast food chain (what, you didn’t line up for hours for that first taste of fried chicken?) now is the time to see what all the hype’s about.

Mister Ice Cream Bar (Kits)

Ice cream season is upon us, and the new Mister location in Kitsilano is coming in hot (cold?) with their signature dipped bananas, ice cream sandwiches and other frozen treats.

Menya Itto

Now Open

Menya Itto ramen is a favourite in Japan, and the new Vancouver location is the first in North America. If the appeal of ramen isn’t enough (and come on, it should be) the restaurant is also totally stunning—the almost all-wood interior came from a single tree.

49th Parallel (North Van)

Now Open

Americans living in 1818 would be happy to hear that 49th Parallel has moved north (but then you’d have to explain that you’re talking about the coffee and donut shop, not the border, and then you’d have to explain what a donut is).

93 Lonsdale Ave.

Bar Susu

Now Open

Folks mourning the closure of The Whip can take solace in Bar Susu, a new natural wine bar that serves up duck liver parfait, steelhead gravlax, mussels, smoked lamb belly and more.
