Best Richmond Restaurant winners of Vancouver Magazine's 26th Annual Restaurant Awards
In a city blessed with overwhelming choice and considerable standards, our judges were especially taken with Gudrun (Gold), a wee room in wee Steveston whose daily fresh sheet of market-inspired dishes reliably rewards the trust of diners. But if you must play it safe, the rotating cheese and charcuterie selections are guaranteed to please, as is the wine list. Kiriri’s (Silver) bland storefront doesn’t inspire confidence, but once through its doors, you’ll find kind service and marvellously fresh sushi that defy expectations in the best possible way. And your server didn’t miscalculate—the bill really is that cheap. Hoi Tong Seafood (Bronze) similarly underplays its virtues until you’ve tasted the food, at which time you’re transported by humbly presented but stealthily complex dishes like bitter-squash egg pancake and baked salt chicken. Honourable Mentions: Top Shanghai, Chef Tony Seafood
