Lively but rarely loud, perfect for an intimate first date but also for a relaxed dinner with visiting in-laws,
Homer St. Café and Bar (Gold) arrived in late 2013 with a mission to be all things to all locals (and beyond), and damned if it didn’t succeed from the off. Despite its newness, the expansive, elaborately appointed space feels authentically lived-in, all the better to appreciate golden rotisserie chicken and decently priced wines while forgetting for a moment about the world outside.
Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill & Enoteca (Silver) is, by Yaletown standards, virtually antique, its legendary excellence having ensured it carried on while the neighbourhood changed around it; tourists and celebrities make a point of bigging it up here, but there are few better ways to while away an hour or two than settling in at the bar and nonchalantly enjoying a plate of pasta. Likewise,
Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar (Bronze) leaves trend-chasing to its younger neighbours—its reputation for wine, service, and all manner of seafood is unrivalled, and the reliably full dining room proves it.
