1. Book It On Over to the Vancouver Art Book Fair

July 26-27

Maybe I’m biased (I am), but books and printed work deserve love in this digital age. Head to the Roundhouse this weekend to explore endless art books, zines and magazines from over 80 exhibitors worldwide. Enjoy live performances, food trucks, and if you’re extra keen, don’t miss the free VABF symposium on Art Publishing on July 28th at Emily Carr—it’s sure to be a real page-turner (last pun, I promise).

When: July 26-27
Where: Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre
Cost: Free

2. Strike a Pose at Van Vogue Jam’s Posh Ball

July 27

Back and fiercer than ever! This iconic 2SLGBTQAI+ ballroom event, hosted by Van Vogue Jam, runs from 5 p.m. to midnight and has it all: fierce catwalk glamour, duck-walks, popping, shwam! calls and battles that will leave you gagged (I really hope I used this vogue-cabulary correctly). And if you leave inspired to try it yourself, why not take a class (Tuesdays) and learn firsthand what all these words mean and how to put them to action?

When: July 27
Where: Sheraton Wall Center
Cost: From $38.61

Enter Slip Slap Trip Wack by Leaky Heaven Performance—a 20-minute, improvised slapstick comedy on a 360-degree rotating platform (what?). Expect quirky concession snacks (think kid-curated specialties and pranks), and kids can even barter their way in.
