Gather your best amigos and head to Suyo for their new collaborative dinner (and pairings) series that’s a true taste of friendship. With four dinners in the series, this week kicks things off with Chef Ricardo Valverde and his crew welcoming Chef Ivy Yang of Elisa for a friend date that promises to be very tasty. (If you can’t make this one—the next one’s September 12 with Wildlight Kitchen and Bar so put it in that cal, pal.)

For National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21) enjoy a different kind of collab at “The Path Forward” where the VSO and various Indigenous artists from the Coast Salish territories come together for a special concert series that includes a fashion show and music from DJ O Show. It’s free, so show up early—5 p.m. gets you first dibs on the food trucks and the best seats.

If you’ve ever owned a UV blacklight poster featuring, say, a mushroom smoking a herbal jazz cigarette, then this comedy show might be your kind of trip. Watch comedian Shane Mauss (CONAN, Comedy Central, Here We Are) blend humour, science and trippy custom animations with his show A Better Trip—a show I would venture to describe as Bill Nye the Science Guy on shrooms, but with more comedy. Still not convinced? Check out this promo trailer.
When: June 13-14 Where: Rio Theatre Cost: From $30 More info: riotheatretickets.ca
It’s yappy hour over on Main street cool-kid bar Uncle Abe’s with a special dog party (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) on Saturday to mark the furball-friendly patio opening for the season. Free dog snacks for four-legged attendees and drink features and sampling from Malibu and Twin Sails Brewing—everybody gets a treat! Bring your canine drinking buddy, there’s even a special pup menu featuring a “Hair of the Dog” deluxe snack pack, “Barkberry” and “Pupcolada” dogtails and, of course, a “Chowcuterie Board” of treats.
