Geeks who like beer, make some noise! The Brews, Builds ’n’ Bites event is an adults-only tinkering extravaganza–it’s time to redeem yourself from your fourth grade science fair disaster. Smoke Out

September 22

Honestly, you probably won’t have any fun at the 2019 Vancouver Firefighters Hall of Fame Calendar Release Party. You’ll hate meeting and mingling with a bunch of muscular local heroes. You won’t at all enjoy watching them strut their stuff on the fashion runway, or the DJ and dancing that follows. What’s important to remember is that this is for a good cause: proceeds go to the BC Professional Firefighters’ Burn Fund, the Vancouver Fire Charities’ Snacks for Kids Program and the CKNW Children’s Fund. Come on, do it for the children. When: Saturday, September 22 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.Where: 130 West – LoungeworksCost: From $35More Info: vancouverfirefighters.ca (Photo: Meighan Makarchuk.)

Pig Out (Sustainably, of Course)

September 23

Despite the event’s title, the Chef’s Table Society Slow Fish Dinner is not serving up the slowest-moving sea creatures in the ocean. Slow fishing is a movement that rejects all that fast food embraces–rather than mass-produced, chemically altered foods, slow food and slow fishing focuses on locally-sourced, fresh, and sustainable swimmers. Enjoy a sparkling wine reception with canapés prepared by PICA students followed by a tasty tour through eight of PICA’s working kitchens, sampling honey mussels, sturgeon and char created by esteemed local chefs. When: Sunday September 23, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.Where: Pacific Institute of Culinary ArtsCost: $109More Info: eventbrite.ca
