Culinary pros take to the stage at the Vancouver Home + Design Show

From pastry-making to wine-pairing, secrets of the kitchen will be revealed on the Vancouver Magazine Cooking Stage.

The Vancouver Home + Design Show is most commonly thought to be an expo for furnishings, appliances, interior design, and construction—in short, the largest (and most expensive) building blocks of the environments in which we live our lives. But the annual event—now, impressively, in its 32nd year—has long been obsessed with the kitchen: not only the equipment that fills the space but what gets done inside it. At this year’s edition (Oct. 22-25), the show outdoes itself with the Vancouver Magazine Cooking Stage, where more than a dozen culinary experts—chefs from some of the city’s top restaurants; sommeliers; health and diet experts; and more—share rare and covetable tricks of the trade with live seminars and workshops for ambitious home cooks. Among the attractions, Sai Woo chef Keev Mah demonstrates the art of dumpling-making, wine consultant and columnist Kurtis Kolt decodes the mysteries of wine-and-food pairing; Nosh pastry chef Elie Nehme shares how to make crave-worthy desserts; and much more.
