Yes, we reference Vampire Weekend in this, very much not sorry.
Welcome to 24 Days of Beer, in which we guide you through what might be a very dark month. Aren’t you glad we’re here to tell you what to drain your sorrows with?
In December, drinking horchata. If you didn’t say those words in your head in a very specific tune, we probably wouldn’t be friends.
But hey, you might still like this beer. Again, I probably wouldn’t want to be friends with you if you didn’t at the very least find it interesting.
This beer by North Van’s excellent Bridge Brewing is an incredibly light, absolutely pleasant marriage of the Mexican beverage and traditional blonde ale. It’s sweet yes, but never overpowering, with a touch of cinnamon, vanilla and coffee.
In short, it makes for an effective holiday drink that isn’t overly heavy or high in ABV (aka, you can smash three or four cans of it). I only wish it was slightly snowing while I drank this to give it the real “getting hammed at the chalet feel” that we’re sadly missing out on this holiday season.
But hey, given the mask order and how it’s probably about to turn very cold, it is the perfect time to wear a balaclava. Poetic, really.
