Is this on every Canadian's Christmas list?
Welcome to 24 Days of Beer, in which we guide you through what might be a very dark month. Aren’t you glad we’re here to tell you what to drain your sorrows with?
For any beer-drinking Canadian, the phrase maple stout is bound to generate excitement. Really, it’s a wonder you don’t see more.
The excellent and long-standing Cannery Brewing in Penticton is able to walk its talk with what it bills as a “truly Canadian stout”. And the 5.5 ABV beverage is very pleasant and sessionable while never verging into “too sweet” territory. Instead, it’s a fairly heavy and dark stout with a really pleasant maple finish.
Unlike the Great Maple Syrup Heist that the can references (and in which some $18 million in “liquid gold” was stolen from Quebec producers), the beer is smooth and not regrettable.
It also (well, probably at least) won’t send you to jail.
