Is there a limit to how many micro-breweries Mount Pleasant can accommodate? Apparently not. Thimble & Ale Brewing opens its doors this weekend, joining the ranks of buzzy tasting rooms 33 Acres, Brassneck and Main Street Brewing in Main Street’s hipster corridor. The new room, though, will be the first micro-micro-brewery in the city, which owner/brewmaster Nelson Groves believes will help distinguish the startup brewhouse from the pack. “With space at a premium in the city, it just made sense,” Groves says. “Go small or go home, that’s what I always say.”The four-foot by four-foot by four-foot room will offer three beers on tap to start—Gentrification Lager, Oil Spill Stout, and Playoff Riot Pilsner—in signature 1-oz pint glasses that can be enjoyed around custom family-style wood tables. “I love skateboarding, so I thought, ‘let’s just add some legs to the board’. Now we’ve got an amazing table that can fit one, two, maybe even three people if they don’t move or breathe,” Grove says. “Luckily, this is Vancouver, so it’s not like they’re going to want to actually talk to each other.”
