Celebrate your three days off with this beauty from the Okanagan
The Victoria Day long weekend should be all about relaxing—with plenty to eat and drink on hand. While taking advantage of one of the region’s most prized (and short-lived) seasonal bounties, be sure to pair it with the right wine, like this Okanagan-made winner from our 11th annual Wine Awards.CedarCreek Pinot Gris 2013$17.39B.C. +561175Pinot Gris is the most planted white grape in the Okanagan Valley (chardonnay comes a close second), and its wines deliver a range of styles, from bone-dry to medium-sweet. This edition, from Kelowna’s CedarCreek Estate Winery, tastes dry, with a broad palate of apple and pear flavours that are kept trim with juicy, citrusy acidity. You’ll notice a rich mid-palate, built from a portion of barrel-fermented gris blended in to add textural richness and nutty nuances. Stylish and focused, it makes a sensational match for creamy sautéed spot prawns (now in season; find out more here). Whether you find the 2013 vintage or the recently released 2014 in your local store, rest assured that both are excellent.
